Dear Martin is the book about Justyce - Jus for friends - who one night gets arrested even though he was just helping Melo - his girlfriend. And he was arrested just because he is black. And that moment changes Jus's life forever.
Raw, captivating, and undeniably real, Nic Stone joins industry giants Jason Reynolds and Walter Dean Myers as she boldly tackles American race relations in this stunning debut.

Justyce McAllister is top of his class and set for the Ivy League—but none of that matters to the police officer who just put him in handcuffs. And despite leaving his rough neighborhood behind, he can't escape the scorn of his former peers or the ridicule of his new classmates. Justyce looks to the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for answers. But do they hold up anymore? He starts a journal to Dr. King to find out.(source:goodreads.com)

I do not have enough words to explain to all of you how much I enjoyed this book. I never read a book on this particular subject, but I'm so glad this was my first one.
This book literally BROKE my heart. It was so raw and sad and it made me feel so much.
Believe me when I say that everyone should read this book. It's so important and everyone should know how it feels to live in this world as an African American.

You can’t change how other people think and act, but you’re in full control of you. When it comes down to it, the only question that matters is this: If nothing in the world ever changes, what type of man are you gonna be?

I won't talk much about story itself. I think that you should go into this story blind and live this story with Jus not knowing what's gonna happen next.
But I must say that this story was written so,so good. It was flowing, fast pacing and it felt so real.
I know that this things do happen in real life, but this book felt like it was someone's testimony. All the time I felt like Jus is a real person to whom all these things happened. And all those letters to Martin Luther King was a nice touch. Jus was writing them to be more like Martin, but along the way he found himself.
Jus's character was written flawless. He himself had flaws, but what I thought when I said flawless I meant that he felt natural. He is so honest, and sensible and so smart! Also, how he threat Melo with respect even though she doesn't really love him is just good to see. And his relationship with SJ? Perfection We see how he make progress through this book, how he makes mistakes and how all of things that happened to him affects him. Also,I loved his friendship with Manny. It was so pure, and real and perfect. That doesn't mean that they didn't fight. That just means they stayed friends even though they fought.

People often learn more from getting an undeserved pass than they would from being punished.

SJ and Doc are the other characters beside Manny and Jus I really liked. I liked how SJ was there for Jus all the time and no matter what. Even though she is not an African American, she felt all the things Jus was feeling. And her support and kindness for Jus melted my heart.
Doc is also an important character. He is someone who knows how it feels to live in a world as an African American and how hard it is. And considering that,he was there for Jus all the time. He is like a sense of mind to Jus and I liked that aspect a lot.
There are some characters I don't like at all. Not because they are not written good,I just didn't like their attitude.
Jus's mum was so bad parent and that really bothered me. She wasn't supporting him at all,and she was kinda racist which was funny considering that she is an African American.
Other ones that I didn't like was Jared & Co. but I won't talk about them because it will just spoil this book for you.

You can't change how other people think and act, but you're in full control of you.

Overall,I think there should be more teens reading this book. Even though it's January,I'm sure this will be the best book I read this year. It's so beautyful, sad, raw but it's somehow hopefull in the same time. It gives me hope that if more people read this book, more people will understand and more people will be more respectful not just to African Americans, but to all people in the world.
If you want to read the book that will make you feel a whole range of feelings then there is no better book for you. I just hope more people will read this book and that more people will get to know Jus.
