The Epic crush of Genie Lo is a book about Genie - an exceptional girl and Quentin a very special boy. It's a book about their friendship, about love and above all - this is a book that shows us that girl can be strong!

She annihilates standardized tests and the bad guys.

Genie Lo is one among droves of Ivy-hopeful overachievers in her sleepy Bay Area suburb. You know, the type who wins. When she’s not crushing it at volleyball or hitting the books, Genie is typically working on how to crack the elusive Harvard entry code.

But when her hometown comes under siege from hellspawn straight out of Chinese folklore, her priorities are dramatically rearranged. Enter Quentin Sun, a mysterious new kid in class who becomes Genie’s self-appointed guide to battling demons. While Genie knows Quentin only as an attractive transfer student with an oddly formal command of the English language, in another reality he is Sun Wukong, the mythological Monkey King incarnate—right down to the furry tale and penchant for peaches.
Suddenly, acing the SATs is the least of Genie’s worries. The fates of her friends, family, and the entire Bay Area all depend on her summoning an inner power that Quentin assures her is strong enough to level the very gates of Heaven. But every second Genie spends tapping into the secret of her true nature is a second in which the lives of her loved ones hang in the balance.(source:goodreads)

There are so many things I liked about this book! I liked the writting style which reminded me a lot to Rick Riordan's books. The book had such a humor like Percy Jackson series and to be honest, that's the thing I liked the most about this book. It made me laugh so many times and it just made me happy. The characters were amazingly written too! Genie and Quentiin have so much chemistry between them it's unbearable. I liked how those two were pulled to each other, even though Genie was a bit rude to him in the beginning. Also, romance was naturaly presented and to me it didn't feel rushed at all.

“Spiritual power isn’t just or merciful. It’s fair. That’s what makes it so dangerous.”

What I liked the most about this book is mythology. I always love to see this aspect in books. It just add something magical to books that makes them special. And it had the right amount of it,it was just pure pleasure. Although, what I didn't kinda liked is that there were a lot of words without explanations, and myths also. And that's the thing I really missed. I read Percy Jackson,so yes I know a lot about Greek mythology. And I study Scandinavian culture so their mythology is not a problem. But chinese mythology is a total unknown thing for me. And even though the author did try to explain all the aspects of the book,I still think it wasn't enough. I just needed more. Although,I must say I'm sorry if there is some kind of glossary in the finished book, because in ARC I didn't have it. But that didn't bothered me enough to hate the book.

“People can always say I don't look impressive enough, but they can't argue over how strong I am once I punch them in the face.”

So,overall,I LOVED this book! It had everything I need:Rick Riordan type of humor, friendship, romance and most important thing of all,it had mythology. This definatelly became one of my favorite books! I just hope there is gonna be the sequel soon because I can't wait to dive into this world again! If you're lover of mythology or Rick Riordan, like I am,then be assured that this is the right book for you. It will make you laugh,it will make you cry - it will blow your mind.
